Elisabethwijk

To the east of the station lies the Elisabethwijk, a residential district that dates from 1920. It was designed by the urban architect August Waterschoot who used a symmetrical street pattern round 2 central squares: the Koningin Elisabethplein and the Prins Leopoldplein. The Elisabethwijk and its resident shopkeepers and traders prospered thanks to the textile industry that was then present in Sint-Niklaas.
