Klein Brabant

Klein Brabant is considered the green lung of the Antwerp-Ghent-Brussels triangle. The region is ideal for people who love nature but do not want to sacrifice facilities. The Scheldt meanders in alluring bends along green banks in this beautiful region. The picturesque villages of Sint-Amands, Mariakerke and Hingene were used as the backdrop of the successful fiction series Stille Waters in 2001. Immerse yourself in the dream atmosphere by exploring the many cycling, hiking and sailing routes. When you come back from the beautiful outings, you can enjoy a wide range of regional products that Klein Brabant has to offer, such as paling in’t groen [eel in green sauce], ‘aspuurges’ (asparagus from Puurs), Boerinneke chocolate spread, and naturally to top it all off, a Duvel beer from the Moortgat brewery. People who are keen on culture will not be disappointed either by the region. You can visit several heritage sites such as Fort Breendonk, Fort Liezele, Marnix de Sainte-Aldegonde Castle, the Notelaer (featured in Stille Waters) and a museum dedicated to the poet Emile Verhaeren. Real sports enthusiasts can try taking on the annual Dodentocht [100 kilometre march].
